White Water
The Tamar Canoe Association coaches white water kayaking in grade 1 & 2 rivers throughout the white water season (depending on access agreements for each river from 1st October - 15th March) A river trip calendar is posted to members in September and providing you have at least your two star award you are welcome to join the trips (subject to numbers, coaches discretion and conditions on the day)
You
are encouraged to use your
own kayak if you have one as fit and familiarization are important, although we
do we do have kayaks available if you do not have your own (it is strongly
recommended to fit air bags in your kayak). The club paddles various rivers,
grades and river sections all having official access agreements some of the
rivers include - River Tamar, River Dart, River Lyhner and a short section of
the River Fowey.
During
the trips you will learn how to kayak safely down the rivers learning how to
read and paddle different river features and assess different conditions. You
will be able to train towards your 3 star white water for those wishing to do
so. All official club trips are run by at least a level three inland coach with
additional coaches and
helpers.
During the white water season there are club trips planned 3 out of 4 weekends and becoming part of the Tamar Canoe Association you will meeting other like minded paddlers who also meet for paddles outside of the clubs events. The events outside of the official club events are not associated to The Tamar Canoe Association and are not necessarily run by coaches but if you join the club you will be part is this paddling community with like minded paddlers.
Remember
the club caters for total beginners (providing you have at least your 2 star
award) in white water kayaking and your safety is our number one priority.
There is a rain gauge below for those wishing to see how much rain has fallen on
Dartmoor.
