Sea Kayaking

The Tamar Canoe Association coaches sea kayaking along side the regular kakaks unless there are sufficient numbers in the group to take a separate group. The club has a number of sea kayaks available but they will be issued on a first come first served basis. If you own your own sea kayak you are welcome to bring it along, on Thursday evenings throughout the summer you can either practice your skills or if you and the coach are confident with your paddling ability you can join a group of dedicated sea paddlers on the River Tamar for an evening cruise.

During the summer season you can progress through your star awards if you wish, currently the club has the necessary coaches to coach and assess up to a 3 star award in sea kayaking. You will acquire all of the skills to be able to safely canoe with a group of paddlers under the supervision of a coach. You will practice moving forwards in a straight line, moving backwards in a straight line, turns, bracing, sideways movement, Eskimo rolls, self rescue these are just a few to mention.

If you decide to join The Tamar Canoe Association you will become part of a friendly group of paddlers, the club runs a few dedicated sea paddles locally but you are more than welcome to join in with the flat water river paddles alongside the canoes and kayaks. Many members arrange sea kayaking trips outside of the normal club trips were they visit, Scotland, Wales and many places around the South West Coast on joining the club you will find like minded sea paddlers.
